As we previously reported U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a new version of Form I-9 on July 17, 2017. That new form is required to be used as of today, September 18, 2017. Although the changes to the new Form are minor, it’s critical that you have started or are now using the correct version to protect your organization.
Employers can expect increased attention to Form I-9 compliance and worksite enforcement as:
- Homeland Security calls to add 10,000 new US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials
- ICE audits expected to triple
How do I know if my organization is using the correct version of Form I-9?
All employers must now be using the latest version of Form I-9 with a revision date 07/17/17 N – you will find it in mouse print in the bottom left hand corner. Be sure you are looking at the revision date printed on the bottom left corner of the form, and not the expiration date printed at the top of the form.
To accompany the new Form USCIS also made changes to the Handbook for Employers: Guidance for Completing Form I-9 (M-274).
